It would be nice to be able to have a transparent background option, so that we could take these videos to other editing software and play more with them. What do you think?
Yes, webM would be MUCH better. Smaller files, better quality, and transparency layer. What's not to love?

Too bad this got rejected. Nowadays, with H.265 / HEVC supporting transparency, it would be very cool to see this added for people that want to take these screen recordings and integrate them in other editing programs.

For anyone finding this ticket, my workaround is to set a white background with 0 padding. Not ideal, but works well for many use cases.

Bummed that this was rejected. Would be tremendously helpful for interplay w/ other apps.

Make the background color solid green (like green screen), then use Chroma Key to remove that color in your video editing software. Add inset at around 25-35 in Screen Studio, which adds a border (I go dark) around your screen shot. Works like a charm.

For now, we are not planning to introduce this feature since the mp4 format does not support the alpha channel.
For the workaround, you can use green background and use it as a green screen.

WebM (VP9) and HEVC support an alpha channel, and would probably be a better export target than MP4 for web anyway :)

Pro Res 4444 supports transparency.
